My short documentary “Home Is” shows a social prescribing model of healthcare in practice. The film highlights how members of Barnet Asian Women’s Association (BAWA) support each other with talking therapies, shared activities and the writing and performance of plays.
“Home Is” has been used in a GP training context to trigger discussions about the value of understanding patient’s stories, social prescribing and the listening skills needed to build trust quickly and tell stories in an authentic and collaborative way.
Sessions typically involve a screening of the film, a presentation and Q&A, an engaging activity about significant objects to one’s sense of home and lots of opportunities to discuss implications with colleagues.
Session structures are developed in consultation with you and are flexible and adaptable to your organisational aims.
“..It was a fantastic session and all attendees were fully engaged ... I have no doubt that all of the doctors left the event feeling like they had a deeper understanding of the varied medical presentations of Asian women, and how these may represent deeper psychological problems…”
